The Cost Of Privacy
2018
video installation
It is no secret that the media is a tool for the ruling classes to secure power. Meanwhile, there seems to be no way out of the social media platforms that keep us connected, informed, and available. Our social activities make a profit for others whilst we live in a vigilance state of mind.
As the panoptic increasingly uses propaganda, kittens, sneakers, Calvin Klein thongs, and other delicious consumable goods that take our attention to serve its repressive agenda, The Cost of Privacy, a fake social initiative, uses those same tools to promote connection instead of consumption. It aims to protect the rights of those who hold passive power. A power that is known but not embraced. It is a wake-up call to start collaborating on the creation of a communication platform(s) for the future with user privacy in mind because nothing, not even FREEdom, comes for free.
